I'm a girl who has picked up and moved from coast to coast (& north past most of Canada). That is... Norfolk, Virginia to Bethel, Alaska. --- This journal is a record of the move, and life in the Tundra.

"Poor"

It's an expression up here, like saying 'poor baby' or 'oh man'. You can use it as a sympathy... "Baby's got colic', "oh poor". 'Or a woman slipped and fell on the ice today' "poor".  I recognized it long ago as a Bush-Alaska-ism but hadn't started using it until recently. Unlike the non verbal eyebrows and nose scrunch. That I found myself using almost immediately (eyebrows raise briefly for yes, nose scrunch for no and shoulder shrug for I don't know). I suppose I'm more of a non-verbal person.
