I'm a girl who has picked up and moved from coast to coast (& north past most of Canada). That is... Norfolk, Virginia to Bethel, Alaska. --- This journal is a record of the move, and life in the Tundra.

The beginnings of assimilation

At some point before, I mentioned that one of the first cultural things I learned was about the Native Alaskan way to use facial expressions. Any eyebrow raise is 'yes', a nose wrinkle is 'no' and a shrug is... you guessed it, 'I dunno'. Over the last couple days, "A" (my assistant) and I have noticed I've begun using these. Mostly the eyebrows, but I have. I've responded entirely non-verbally, and I've mixed it in with words. In short... I'm assimilating.

You could say its a product of or testament to my nomadic nature in life thus far. It reminds me of moving from the South to the North and getting teased at about 11 yrs old. Let me tell you, I lost that accent quick.
